The Saddlers rescued a point at the death as substitute Aramide Oteh scored a last-minute penalty to earn Martin O’Connor his first point as Interim boss.

O’Connor’s side started positively and could have been ahead inside the opening 10 minutes. Luke Leahy whipped in a delightful ball to the back post and the on-rushing Nicky Devlin could only direct it just past the far post.

Just a minute later and Joe Edwards went close with a long range drive which United goal keeper Mark Oxley had to claim at the second attempt.

At the half hour point, Chris Dunn, who was making his first league start of the season, pulled off a big save to deny Harry Bunn for the visitors.

A long ball to the back post was missed by everyone apart from Bunn but his powerful drive was kept out by Dunn.

Moments later and Dunn was once again called into action, this time to deny Rob Kiernan, who’s chest and volley had to be dealt with by the Saddlers keeper.

Two minutes before the break and the visitors got the goal that put them ahead.

A mix-up at the back between Connor Johnson and Dan Scarr allowed the United top scorer to run in behind, flicking the ball past Dunn before tapping home into an empty net.

Into the second half and the Saddlers went looking for an equaliser and nearly found it through top scorer Andy Cook, only for the striker to see his low effort go just wide of the near post just before the hour mark.

Just after the hour mark and the Saddlers went close again, this time through Corey Blackett-Taylor but his low cross across the box wasn’t met by anyone in a red shirt and the chance went begging.

With 12 minutes left to play, the visitors nearly made it 0-2 through full-back Elvis Bwomono. After a surging run, the ball bounced Kindly for the defender but he was only able to poke it wide of the far post.

In injury time, the Saddlers got their reward as the referee awarded a penalty for an elbow on Oteh and the on-loan Queens Park Rangers striker tucked the ball home from the spot to rescue the point.
