Young Reporter: Walsall 0-0 Blackpool

3 September 2018

On a hot September day at the Banks's, Walsall entertained an in-form Blackpool side on a good run of form. The Saddlers were looking to add to their own good start to the season and a decent crowd of 4,762 was there to witness it all.

Blackpool kicked off in the sunshine and immediately they were on the front foot, putting the home team under pressure straight away. The 364 away fans were in good voice - although most of the time they were having a pop at their owner!

The Saddlers gradually got to grips with the game and just missed with a free kick after a foul on Morris. However, Blackpool still looked dangerous and Roberts was forced into action in the 37th minute.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first with the visitors probing for openings. Our defence stood strong and Leahy, in particular, was having a very decent game.

However, going the other way, Walsall just couldn't make any headway against a strong defence. Blackpool's number 16, Tilt, was really dominating and it turns out that he's from Walsall!

Gordon came on for Cook in the 68th minute and immediately suffered a head cut, leading to a lengthy stoppage! Wilson also replaced Ismail late on and put a header just wide as the clock ticked down.

Despite six added minutes and a Blackpool offside goal, the game ended in an entertaining 0-0 draw.

In the press conference afterwards, the boss was happy with the clean sheet against a good side but felt that we weren't quite at our best. He also said that the two new loan signings from Wolves would give us options for future games.

Talking of which, we're off to Burton (EFL Trophy) and Barnsley next... UTS!!
