Keates pleased with Saddlers' reaction

24 September 2018

Dean Keates was pleased with the reaction from his players in the Saddlers' 2-1 win at Oxford United.

Keates’ side returned to winning ways thanks to goals from Morgan Ferrier and Zeli Ismail, following their first league defeat of the season against Doncaster Rovers the previous weekend.

The 40-year-old called for a reaction from his team - and he certainly got one.

“We are delighted with the result,” he said. “I asked for a reaction from last weekend and the lads had a good week's training. I thought we did well and we deserved it.

“Without going into too much detail, I will watch it back and I will learn even more.”

Keates was disappointed the Saddlers couldn't keep a clean sheet, though, adding: "We have spoken to the players regarding it and we will massively go into it in the debrief.

“If somebody is putting it into the top corner from 30 yards then you can’t do too much about those, it is where we have our last point of contact.

“Is it coming from our mistakes? I believe the goal we conceded was from our mistake.

“It is all about fine margins. It can take a little nick and it will change the position of the ball and its direction and then it can hit somebody else.

“It is all about the decision making and when we get to the last three minutes we need to be making the right decisions so that we can cross the line with the clean sheet we want.”
