Walsall 0-0 Shrewsbury

2 October 2018

It was another frustrating night in front of goal for the Saddlers as they had to settle for a point in a goalless draw against local rivals Shrewsbury Town.

Early in the first half it was Walsall goalkeeper Liam Roberts who was the busier of the two number ones.

Inside the opening 10 minutes Roberts was called into action to deny Shaun Whalley, who had started the game in lively fashion.

Moments later, there was a save to make down the other end for Joel Coleman, as Zeli Ismail curled a 25-yard free-kick towards the top corner, but it was excellently tipped over by Town’s keeper.

As the game hit the 20-minute mark, Roberts was called into action once again, this time to deny Ollie Norburn, who saw his effort zip across the wet playing surface.

With the game becoming more open, the Saddlers grew and grew in confidence, with captain George Dobson beginning to run the show.

And Keates’ men found themselves in a great position just before the half-hour mark as Dobson found Josh Ginnelly unmarked at the back post but his effort was cleared off the line by Anthony Grant.

Just three minutes later and it should have been 1-0 to the Saddlers, this time it was Ferrier with the golden chance.

Following a corner that was sent back out to him, Luke Leahy found the number 16 free inside the penalty area, 10 yards out, but the striker could only direct his powerful header wide of the left post.

In the second half the game followed suit as Coleman was called into action on a number of occasions, denying the Saddlers every time he was required.

Chances for Leahy, Ferrier and Ginnelly were once again squandered, as Keates’ men were left frustrated once again at the Banks’s Stadium.
