Ronan: we weren't at the races against Burton

5 November 2018

Saddlers midfielder Connor Ronan knows that the team will need to have an immediate reaction following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat against Burton Albion.

In what was a game of two halves, on-loan Ronan says that the players know they need to respond to the below-par performance from the weekend and he is confident that they will.

The midfielder, who has started the last three games in the league, admitted that the players were disappointed with themselves following a strong showing against Wycombe last time out.

However, the 20-year-old moved quickly to reassure fans that they will come out fighting against Charlton on Tuesday night, knowing a win could put them back on level terms with the teams in the play-off spots.

“It was very disappointing,” said Ronan. “We know we weren’t good enough. One thing you have to do after a game like that is identify what went wrong.

“Sometimes you just have to admit you weren’t good enough. I think from the start we weren’t on it, we weren’t at the races. We were second to everything.

“We gave them a head start. They had a few chances and the penalty. And then when they did go one up, we should have had a reaction but it didn’t come.

“It didn’t really come until they got their third.

“We looked to get on the ball a bit more but maybe they dropped off.

“I think if we start better we can then take that momentum into the rest of the game.

“We showed in the second half that we can do it, if we can play like that from the off we will give ourselves a chance.

“We didn’t give ourselves a chance against Burton by the way we started.

With the re-arranged fixture against Charlton on Tuesday night, Ronan is confident of a reaction from himself and his team-mates.

“This season we have showed whenever we have had a poor performance to result we have bounced back,” he continued. “That’s been key for us.

“When we haven’t performed, we’ve addressed it as a team. We normally bounce back in the next game.

“We haven’t got a full week to dwell in it which is a good thing and the lads are now looking forward to Charlton.

"We will definitely have a reaction. We now have to go for the win against Charlton.”
