Keates proud after cup progress

10 November 2018

Dean Keates was proud of his players following the Saddlers’ battling performance in an electric FA Cup first-round win over Coventry

Goals from Andy Cook, Josh Ginnelly and Nicky Devlin secured the Saddlers’ place in round two and Keates was delighted with the result and reaction from his players.

“It was an unbelievable FA Cup tie,” said Keates. “It was end to end and it was two teams having a right go at each other.

“I was disappointed with the goals we conceded but we will learn from it.

“Their first goal was a blatant handball but we have kept going.

“I asked them to keep going and give a shift for the club and they have done that.

“It has been a difficult few weeks for us. The lads have given a reaction and they gave everything for the football club.

“To go two goals up and to then be pulled back to two goals each, they showed great character.

“We were on the back foot for the first 15 minutes of the second half but when we weathered that storm, we were the better team in the second half and deserved to win.”
