Oztumer targeting strong finish to the season

6 March 2018

Erhun Oztumer is targeting a strong finish to the Saddlers’ 2017/18 League One campaign.

We climbed up to 13th with an impressive 3-0 win at Southend on Saturday and can move into the top half with victory over bottom-of-the-table Rochdale tonight.

Oztumer is expecting a tough test against Dale, who held Premier League Tottenham to a 2-2 draw in the FA Cup fifth round last month.

The playmaker is pleased to have home advantage, though, and is hoping we can find more consistency in our remaining 11 games.

“It’s been an up and down season for us,” said the 26-year-old.

“We need to be more consistent. We’ve got 11 games to go now and we’re going to give it our all and see where we end up.

“Rochdale are down there and it’ll be a tough game. But we’re at home, and with our fans behind us, we can beat anyone.

"Hopefully we can finish higher than we did last year.”

The diminutive midfielder scored a second-half hat-trick in the Roots Hall success – the first treble of his professional career.

He has now scored 16 goals in all competitions – eclipsing last season’s tally of 15.

“I was delighted to score a hat-trick,” he added.

“In those conditions, it was hard to play. The three points were the most important thing but to score three goals away from home was a great feeling.

“I always go on the pitch and try to give 110%, work hard and try to show my talent. I had a good game and scored three goals.

“I wanted to beat last year’s record and I’ve done that now.

“I want to score as many as I can and play as well as I can."
