Nicky Devlin has told his Saddlers teammates to put the Rochdale disappointment behind them and concentrate on Saturday’s derby at Shrewsbury.
Goals from Jim McNulty, Ian Henderson and Mihai Dobre earned relegation-troubled Dale a convincing win, condemning the Saddlers to a second straight home defeat.
But with a big match against promotion-chasing local rivals Shrewsbury coming up this weekend, Devlin says his side can’t dwell on the result.
“From the high of Southend, that was probably one of the lowest points of the season,” said the former Ayr right-back.
“They didn’t have a game on Saturday and probably came here a bit fresher but I still think we should have done more.
“It’s important not to get too carried away when you win or too down when you lose, especially as there’s a game coming up in a couple of days.
“We’ve got to recover now and be ready to go again on Saturday at Shrewsbury.
“We know it’s not going to be easy but it’s a chance to put it right. It’s a local derby, which will add something.
“We want to go there and pick up points, but we’ll have to be a lot better than we were against Rochdale to take something from that game.”
