Keates praises players after Ajax win

19 July 2018

Dean Keates was full of praise for his players after the Saddlers’ historic 2-0 pre-season victory over Ajax.

A well-taken Andy Cook brace earned the Saddlers a 2-0 win against the Dutch giants – and Keates was pleased with his side’s performance.

“Full credit to the lads,” he said.

“Performance-wise, it’s progressively got better over the last five or six days and the three games.

“Today was a bit of a concern on the fatigue side with the amount of minutes that have gone into the players.

“But we balanced it out and we played well.

“We got put under a lot of pressure but we kept going.

"Against Villa and Stoke we got pulled apart at times, there were too many gaps.

”We have looked at clips from the Stoke game and learnt lessons, the players are taking the information on board.”

Keates also paid tribute to Cook after his match-winning brace.

“He’s done well in the last few games and the fans have seen a little bit of what he’s about,” he added.

“The ball got put in the box – it was a great delivery – and a great header for the first goal.

“He took the second goal really well.”
