Ismail 'buzzing' to be back

6 July 2018

Zeli Ismail impressed during his first spell with the Saddlers and is determined to do even better this time around.

The exciting winger scored three goals in 20 outings on loan from Bury last season, becoming a fans’ favourite.

He rejoined Walsall permanently earlier this summer and is keen to make another positive impression at the Banks’s.

“I really enjoyed my first spell here - it was some of the best football I have played in my career,” said Ismail.

“Walsall are a team that likes to play and keep the ball on the ground which suits me.

“It was a shame I had to go back. I wanted to stay but the two clubs couldn't agree a deal.

“Hopefully I can show the form I did here in the first spell but I want to better it.

“That is the target.”

The 24-year-old only lives in Wolverhampton and is pleased to be playing back in the Midlands.

“I’m buzzing to be back and it’s so close to home,” he added.

“I’ve got my family around me and that’s important - you need to surround yourself with the right people.

“I have always lived in Wolverhampton. Last year I used to travel to Bury every day and back which was tough.

“Now I’m 12 minutes from my house so I’ve got no excuses to be late for training!”
