Saddlers sign Arsenal defender Krystian Bielik on loan

31 January 2018

Walsall Football Club have made our third signing of the January transfer window with defender Krystian Bielik signing on loan from Premier League side Arsenal until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old defender, who plays as a centre-half, spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Birmingham City, going on to make 10 appearances, including eight starts, for the Blues.

Bielik began his career in his native Poland with Legia Warsaw before signing for Arsenal in 2015.

He has since made two senior appearances for The Gunners, both in the Carabao Cup, before joining The Blues on loan exactly one year ago today.

“Krystian is a very technical, ball-playing centre-half and he’s had a good loan spell with Birmingham last season, so he’s got a Midlands connection,” said manager Jon Whitney.

“He was really good for them but he’s had a shoulder injury in the last few months.

“I’ve been chasing him for about two or three weeks now, and we’ve persuaded him to come here ahead of other League One clubs and some abroad, too.

“We’d like to thank Arsenal and Arsene Wenger for allowing him to come to us.”
