Young Reporter: Walsall 1-0 MK Dons

5 February 2018

On a drizzly afternoon, Walsall welcomed a Milton Keynes side struggling at the bottom of League One.

After two tough away defeats, the Saddlers were keen to get back to winning ways in front of a crowd of 4009, including 436 away fans.

The boys started like a house on fire and launched attack after attack on their opponents. Edwards, Oztumer and Bakayoko all had good efforts on goal in the first 15 minutes.

After that, the game became a more even contest with both sides having lots of possession but not too many goal scoring chances.

MK Dons came out in a determined fashion at the start of the second half. They bossed the game for a while but it was the Saddlers who had a golden chance to go in front in the 60th minute when Bakayoko blasted over from close range.

At this point, Walsall brought on a couple of subs: Off went Oztumer and Bakayoko and on came our two new signings, Shaibu and Ngoy.

GOAL! Within a few minutes of coming on, Ngoy raced on to a through ball, cut inside his marker and slotted a great shot past the keeper at the near post. Talk about making a good first impression!

Now the visitors pressed for an equaliser. Roberts suddenly became very busy in the home goal. He pulled off a couple of good saves and caught some dangerous crosses in the last few minutes. Thankfully, the Saddlers hung on for a vital victory.

In the press conference afterwards, JW was very happy indeed with the win. He thought it was well deserved and praised the two subbed players who he said had run themselves into the ground.

It’s a trip to the seaside at Blackpool next week for the lads… UTS!!
