Whitney: replicate second-half showing

27 February 2018

Jon Whitney wants his Saddlers team to replicate the second-half performance against Blackburn when we visit managerless Peterborough tonight.

The Saddlers fell to a 2-1 defeat against top-of-the-table Rovers despite producing a spirited second-half showing.

And Whitney is hoping Walsall can perform with the same energy and belief at London Road this evening.

“We want to try to win every game,” said the 47-year-old.

“We had really good energy in the second half against Blackburn and we broke from a really good shape – we never looked open.

“We will take that into tonight and we won’t go there just to park the bus because that’s not us as a team.

“We have to make it difficult for Peterborough. They’re a threat with three up top and they’ve got pace in the team – a lot of goals as well.

“We will go there to create problems for them and to see if we can get a bit more of a gap between ourselves and the bottom four.

“We will be ready for them and if we can take that belief and energy from the second half against Blackburn, then I believe we will be a match for any team.”

Vice-captain Joe Edwards is a doubt for tonight's match after coming off against Blackburn.
