Whitney provides Bielik fitness update

23 February 2018

Jon Whitney has a largely fully-fit Saddlers squad to choose from ahead of the visit of Blackburn tomorrow - and is hopeful on-loan defender Krystian Bielik will be available for selection in the next couple of weeks.

Bielik has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury, meaning the start of the 20-year-old’s loan spell from Arsenal has been delayed thus far.

The Polish defender was The Saddlers’ first confirmed signing on Transfer Deadline Day at the end of January, prior to Jack Fitzwater and Julien Ngoy arriving from West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City respectively.

“Krystian has had a setback in his rehabilitation,” said Whitney.

“Unfortunately he has tweaked his knee during late-stage rehab which has delayed the start of his loan spell with us.

“Krystian is due at the club in the next 10 days to meet with the squad and take part in some group sessions, and we look forward to Krystian joining the group in the next couple of weeks.

“Other than, we’ve got a clean bill of health for the Blackburn game.

“We’ll be getting them out on the training pitch again today. They’ve had an added spring in their step this week with the team at the top of the table coming here, so for me it’s a good challenge for us this week.”
