A Walsall FC Community Programme coach could play against the Saddlers in their Staffordshire Senior Cup quarter final.

Alex Moore works full-time with Walsall FCCP, delivering PE lessons and coaching the Elite Development Under 10s during the week.

But Alex also plays as a midfielder for Wolves Sporting of the West Midlands Regional League, who are due to face Walsall FC in the cup this week.

He said: “It’s an exciting game for us. We’ve been on some good cup runs this season, reaching the fifth round in the FA Vase as well, so it would be great if we could go further in the Staffs Senior Cup.”

Alex was part of the Walsall FC Academy set-up until the age of 14, playing in the same age group as former Saddlers left-back Rico Henry.

The now 20-year-old said: “I kept in touch with my coaches Adam Davy and Paul Larvin, and a few years down the line they let me know about opportunities of apprenticeships working with the Community Programme.

“When they told me it was really something I was keen to do. There are a few of us in the Community Programme who have been part of the club from a young age.”

Now a community officer with the scheme, Moore’s Sporting side come into the tie in good form.

They have lost just one of their last ten games, sitting nine points off top of the league with seven games in hand due to their cup exploits.
