Kinsella: I want to score more goals

13 December 2018

Saddlers midfielder Liam Kinsella has targeted adding more goals to his game following his match-winner against Sunderland on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal in the replay at the Stadium of Light from all of 30-yards to set up a third round tie with Championship side Bolton Wanderers.

It was the midfielder’s 18th appearance of the season on Tuesday night and as well as trying to add goals to his game, Kinsella is keen to keep working on his overall progression as we head into the busy Christmas period.

“I just took a touch on the edge of the box and I thought I might as well give it a go,” said Kinsella.

“Thankfully it has gone in.

“I didn’t really know what to do, I didn’t know how to celebrate so I just ran to celebrate with the fans.

“In centre midfield, goals are something that I have got to try and add into my game. I have got to try and score more often and thankfully I have scored against Sunderland.

“When we watch the games back, we will always try and get central midfielders on the edge of the box picking to ball up to have a shot on goal and luckily it came to me on the edge of the box and I was able to get a strike away.

“I don’t think Robbo had much to do. I think we had the better chances throughout the game.

“We had a few in the first half and thankfully we went on to get a clean sheet and the win.

“The confidence for me keeps building week in, week out and I am getting a run of games now and I am enjoying my football.

“Hopefully I get can better and better with the more games that I play.”
