Keates: keep being competitive

7 December 2018

Saddlers manager Dean Keates is urging his side to show the same competitive edge they had in the FA Cup game against Coventry when they welcome them back to the Banks’s this weekend.

His side eventually got past Coventry in the first round of the FA Cup thanks to a fantastic finish from Nicky Devlin and Keates hopes that with all being well, it’ll be the same result tomorrow.

The 40-year-old has reiterated that he wants his players to go out and give 110% and make sure that they give themselves the best chance of picking up three points tomorrow.

“We have had the two cups, the FA Cup and the Checkatrade Trophy and we are now back into the league,” said Keates. “We are back to our bread and butter really.

“It sort of helps on the side that you will know a lot about each other but it’ll be the same for both camps, we just have to get on with it.

“It was a good game, it was a typical FA Cup tie.

“There was a great atmosphere and we got the right result in the end.

“All being well, we will be able to get the same result tomorrow.

“We will do our best to get the same result.

“All we ask of the lads is that they give an honest performance, give 110% and if they can do that then we will give ourselves a good opportunity to get all three points.

“We have always been competitive this season.

“When we haven’t been at it, we haven’t picked up any points. When we are at our best, we always give ourselves a chance.”
