Liam and Alice Kinsella support Girls Football Week

27 April 2018

The Saddlers’ Liam Kinsella and his Commonwealth gold medal-winning sister Alice Kinsella joined in our activities as part of national Girls Football Week yesterday.

Walsall FC Community Programme and University of Wolverhampton staff delivered a Girls Football session at the university’s Walsall campus, with pupils from HydesvilleTower and CaldmorePrimary schools.

Walsall’s Liam Kinsella joined in with the girls’ training sessions and matches, before he and Alice answered questions and took photos with the youngsters.

Alice, 17, has just returned from the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast, where she picked up three gymnastics medals – gold in the beam, silver in the team competition and bronze in the all-around – and even brought along the gold medal to show the girls.

Marc Wilkes, Community Manager for Sport, said: “It’s been brilliant to have both Liam and Alice here to help raise awareness of Girls Football Week.

“Having Liam as a professional footballer, and Alice as a really successful sportswoman, really helped to engage the girls and show them anything is possible.

“They were able to play football alongside Liam, and I know the girls were particularly excited to see Alice’s gold medal – we had a few budding gymnasts in the group too!”
