Boss Jon Whitney felt his side got the result they deserved following the Saddlers’ thrilling 4-2 victory over Fleetwood.
Ex-Saddler Jordy Hiwula put Town in front but goals from Erhun Oztumer and Zeli Ismail gave Walsall a 2-1 half-time lead.
Amari’i Bell equalised, only for late strikes from Tyler Roberts and Dan Agyei to secure a much-needed win.
“I thought it was deserved,” said Whitney.
“Fleetwood are big hitters in this league – they’ve not got a massive fan base – but they’re big hitters and are expected to be play-offs or above.
“The manner of the second goal was disappointing and a lot of teams’ heads would go down.
“We had a quiet ten minutes and then we responded really well. We weathered the storm for a bit and we started to play.
“We finished really strong and the fitness level were really good. Tyler Roberts showed what he can do – it was an incredible goal and he’s a special talent.
“Reece came off the bench, did well and kept it at times. Dan came on and got his goal.
“It was a good performance and a really good 4-2 win against a strong Fleetwood team who will be there or thereabouts.”
