Whitney: Saddlers players are in a good place

24 November 2017

Jon Whitney believes his Saddlers players are in "a good place" heading into tomorrow’s League One match at AFC Wimbledon.

Late goals from Tyler Roberts and Dan Agyei secured a dramatic 4-2 victory over Fleetwood on Tuesday night – our second win in three games since losing to Newport in the FA Cup.

Whitney has been pleased with his side’s response to that Exiles defeat and says his team will travel to Kingsmeadow in confident mood.

“All you can ask for is a reaction – and I’m sure the fans will agree that we’ve had one,” he said.

“We’ve had three good, solid performances [since Newport].

“We beat Shrewsbury in the Checkatrade Trophy and topped our group. We beat a really strong and fancied Fleetwood team. And we dominated Gillingham but didn’t get the result.

“You can’t guarantee wins but we need to concentrate on the small elements that give us that performance and I think we’ll improve again off Fleetwood.

“Every game is an opportunity. They’ve had some good results recently and it’s always difficult when you go there, but we will go there with confidence.

“We’ve got a young, vibrant, creative team who are in a good place at the moment.

“We’ll go there and respect the opposition as we always do but we’ll concentrate on ourselves and how we can cause them problems.”

Joe Edwards and James Wilson will have late fitness checks ahead of Saturday’s game.
