Midfielder happy to have back-to-back home games...
Joe Edwards is looking forward to facing Chesterfield next Tuesday after the fixture’s postponement earlier this week.
The match against the Spireites was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, but has been rearranged for just a week after the original date, on Tuesday 7th March (kick-off 7.45pm).
And Edwards is happy that the side still have two games in quick succession at the Banks’s Stadium.
He said: “It’s great that the game’s been turned around so quickly and we can have our back-to-back home games, just the other way around now.
“I was disappointed at the time but it’s understandable. It was a real downpour for a couple of hours, so we’ve just got to look forward to Saturday now.”
Jon Whitney’s side took advantage of the club’s facilities after the postponement, having an evening training session on the artificial pitch.
Edwards said: “I think it was probably harder than the actual game itself - the gaffer worked us hard!
“But we were disappointed not to play because our home form’s really good at the moment.
“We knew we were going into it with a lot of confidence. It’s good that we’ve changed it around and put it to next week so we can keep that momentum going at home.
Since a thumping 4-1 win over Sheffield United in January, the Saddlers have won all of our games on home soil.
Edwards believes the dominant performance against the then league-leading Blades has acted as a catalyst for the recent run of form.
The 26-year-old said: “It did feel like there was a little switch that went off after the Sheffield United game and since then we’ve just gone into every game really confident.
“There was a lot of talk, saying ‘we’re a good team, we can be great’ but it was about putting a performance in so that people can believe it.
“It’s a good atmosphere at the moment, there’s a lot of positivity flying about the place. The boys are really enjoying the training and looking forward to playing at home.”
