Walsall manager Jon Whitney has given his reaction to our 2017/18 Sky Bet League One fixture list, which was revealed on saddlers.co.uk yesterday.
The Saddlers will visit Bury on the opening day of the season on August 6, before hosting Oldham Athletic a week later on the 13th, with a Carabao Cup tie away to Sheffield United in between.
Boxing Day will see us host Bristol Rovers, while the 2017/18 campaign will conclude with an away fixture at Fleetwood Town, kick-off 5:30pm.
With the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic entering League One next term, as well as Portsmouth and Plymouth Argyle, Whitney thinks supporters are in for an exciting season.
“It’s a chance for us to kick on and compete against some big teams this year,” Whitney said.
“We’ll look forward to our opening day against Bury, and the 45 games from there.
“We’ve got some great clubs to play against - Blackburn have come down, Rotherham is a great stadium to go to for the fans, as is Ewood Park.
“Portsmouth and Plymouth (coming up from League Two) will be two big games and there will be some mouthwatering ties for us.
“For the fans, hopefully we can give them some really good games next year and we will make sure that we fight for every point.”
