Whitney homes in on signings but remains patient

3 June 2017

Saddlers boss Jon Whitney is homing in on a number of summer transfer targets but is happy to remain patient in order to get his men.

The Saddlers squad have attended a number of maintenance training sessions before reporting back officially for pre-season training at the end of the month.

The Saddlers boss revealed that talks are ongoing with several targets - some of whom are naturally on holiday - and  is confident of getting those deals over the line before the squad report back for their summer drills at the club’s Essington training ground.

“We’re in talks with several players but we’re still at a very early stage of the summer,” said Whitney.

“Players have gone away on holiday and most are still under contract at this stage.

“It’s still very early in June and there is still around a month before the players report back for pre-season training.

“But we have identified targets, players we would like to bring in to the club, ahead of the new season.

“We will remain patient but we do hope to have news for supporters soon. I’m confident of securing a couple of new additions, at least, before we report back fully.

I’ve been pleased with the work the lads have put in during their maintenance days and I’m looking forward to working with the group as a whole.”
