Roberts extends Saddlers stay

23 June 2017

Liam Roberts has signed a new one-year contract at Walsall FC, with the option of a further year in the club's favour.

It keeps the promising young goalkeeper with the Saddlers, for whom he made his senior debut against Millwall in February 2016.

The 22-year-old has gained plenty of first-team experience in non-league, enjoying successful loan spells with Gresley, Rainworth, Rushall Olympic Southport and Chester.

And manager Jon Whitney is pleased to secure Roberts’ future at the club.

“Liam is a promising young goalkeeper who very much enjoys working under Neil Cutler,” said Whitney.

“We’re delighted that relationship will continue, and we’re looking for Liam to make a step up now.

“He has done well in spells elsewhere and didn’t let himself down in his senior bow under difficult circumstances.

“He knows where he has to improve and we’ll continue to work with him on his game in training."
