Joe Edwards is relishing a return to pre-season training next week and catching up with his teammates.
The Saddlers’ first-team squad will report back on Monday as preparation begins for the 2017/18 League One campaign.
And while he has enjoyed his time off, Edwards is looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.
“The summer has flown by – it didn’t feel too long ago that we’d just finished,” said the versatile 26-year-old.
“It’s been a good break. I managed to get myself away to America for a couple of weeks and did a bit of travelling over there. It was nice to get away, relax my body and enjoy myself.
“Pre-season is not far away now and I’m really excited.
“After a couple of weeks you get that little bug and you want to get back in the routine of training and being with the boys – which is what I enjoy the most.
“You do miss it and it’s been a longer break than normal this summer, but I’m looking forward to getting back in and seeing the lads.”
It’s almost two months since the Saddlers, and Edwards, played a competitive game, although the former Yeovil captain has stayed relatively active in order to maintain a decent level of fitness.
“If you do keep yourself ticking over it makes it easier for when you do come back,” he added.
“From experience, it’s easier to start earlier as it gives you the best chance possible.
“I give myself a few weeks off when the season finishes to completely rest my body, and then after that I’ll do a little bit to get myself going again and keep myself ticking over.
“That way I come back fully prepared.”
