New recruit Nicky Devlin admits he can’t wait for the matches to begin.
The Scottish right-back joined the Saddlers last month on a two-year deal from Ayr, where he made over 100 appearances and became their youngest captain in more than a century.
The 23-year-old linked up with his new teammates for pre-season training last week and was immediately put through his paces, spending one day running up hills at Cannock Chase.
Walsall’s first pre-season friendly is against local non-league side Solihull Moors on Saturday 15th July.
And Devlin admits the match can't come soon enough.
“I just want the games to come,” he said. “We play Solihull Moors in two weeks so I’m just counting down the days.
“It’s been brilliant so far. All the boys have been great with me and made me feel really welcome.
“There are a couple I knew before coming in which has helped as well. I played against Luke [Leahy] last year.
“That has helped me settle as well and it’s a really welcoming bunch.
“It’s been good fun but it’s been tough.
“We have done a bit of all work but it’s always been with running in between. This week we will start to get into more football related drills which I’m looking forward to.
“But once you’ve done the first session, you just want the games to start.”
