Community: Girls and Inclusion Football Festivals

4 July 2017

Walsall FC Community Programme have hosted two more football festivals for local schools.

The girls’ festival included Year 5 and 6 girls’ teams from six primary schools, while eight schools entered teams to take part in the inclusion festival.

Walsall FCCP have been giving the opportunity for local primary schools to take part in football festivals throughout this academic year.

Events for Year 3 and 4 children, and Year 5 and 6 pupils have taken place at the Banks’s Stadium in the last few months, as well as the EFL’s annual Kids Cup competition at the end of 2016.

Paul Larvin, Community Manager for Education, said: “It’s great we were able to host these competitions in June.

“It was very rewarding to give different children opportunities to play against other local primary schools.

“Girls’ football is growing all the time, so it was fantastic to provide a platform so local schoolgirls can play against each other.

“The children in our inclusion festival may not usually be part of school teams to come to events like this, so we were pleased to allow them the chance to play in a fun and safe environment.”
