HALLWOOD DEPARTS

Young Goalkeeper leaves after failing to secure long-term deal...

The Club can today confirm that young Goalkeeper, Chandler Hallwood, has left the club following a decision not to offer him a long term deal.

After his release from Bradford City last season, the 19-year old joined on non-contract terms in August and has been working with Goelkeeper Coach, Neil Cutler, for the past five months.

“We brought him in because we saw him in a fixture last season and he had something about him.” Cutler explained. “We’ve been honest with him and in order for Chandler to get something long term he really needed to be pushing the younger keepers we’ve got at the club.”

“Having had a look at him for a while now we didn’t think he’d be able to catch up with where Robbo [Liam Roberts] and Craig [MacGillivray] currently are.

“For me, it has to works as a chain of progression. The second choice keeper needs to be pushing the first choice, the third needs to push the second and so on.

“He certainly improved during his time here but didn’t quite have enough to earn something long term.

“I wish him all the best and hope he manages to find a route into first team football.”

The Saddlers currently boast three recognised Goalkeepers in Neil Etheridge, Craig MacGillivray and Liam Roberts, who is on a season-long loan at National League side Chester.
