ST THOMAS MORE REPORTER: WALSALL 2-1 NORTHAMPTON

6 February 2017

Maita Kasenza's match report...

The game against Northampton on Saturday ended with a 2-1 victory.

The first half of the game saw the Saddlers down 1-0 after a goal from John-Joe O'Toole but the deficit was quickly recovered during the second half after an equalising goal from Matt Preston.

The Saddlers kept the pressure on Northampton and didn't leave any chances to waste as the winning goal was scored by Erhun Oztumer with 20 minutes left of the game.

Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge came back after the first half and defended numerous attacks from Northampton.

Jon Whitney stated that Etheridge did not let the first half affect him too much and he stayed concentrated and furthermore praised Etheridge by calling him a "top top player" who has "pulled the team out so many times during this season".

Manager Whitney was extremely pleased with the results especially after Wednesday's game against Millwall and believes that Saturday's victory shows how "good and disciplined" his players are.

Whitney went on to praise the incredible amount of effort the players put into the game to win the match.

The overall game for the Walsall fans was an enjoyable experience with a 2-1 win.

Whitney added that he has a lot of players with "large hearts, passion and discipline" and with this the team can go a long way.
