Community | 'On Track' programme aims to provide youngsters with life skills

7 December 2017

Walsall FC Community Programme have been working with leading children’s charity Barnardo’s and Walsall Job Centre to help young people in the area.

The ‘On Track’ project was aimed at helping 18 to 24 year-olds who are not currently in education, employment or training.

The three week, six session programme aimed to help the participants with career and life skills, such as CV writing and money management, while also giving an insight into the world of football coaching.

Walsall FCCP staff provided some practical coaching experience, with the participants then planning and delivering sessions themselves.

At the final session they were also able to meet Saddlers goalkeeper Liam Roberts, who spoke about some of his football and coaching experiences.

The group will be presented with their certificates before this weekend’s game against Scunthorpe.

Walsall FC Community Manager Marc Wilkes said: “From the initial pilot last year the ‘On Track’ project has provided the participants with a number of life skills with football coaching being at the forefront."
