Club Connections: Rochdale v Walsall

22 December 2017

Ahead of tomorrow's match between Walsall and Rochdale, Joshua Bunting profiles four players who have represented both clubs...

Ashley Grimes

The attacking midfielder featured for the Saddlers in the 2014/15 season, scoring two goals in 27 appearances. Grimes, who started his career at Manchester City, signed for Rochdale in 2011 and spent two seasons at Spotland, netting 18 times in 74 appearances.

Steve Elliot

Elliot only played one season for the Saddlers, in 1965/66. The striker became a fans’ favourite after scoring 20 goals in 69 appearances and also played for a whole host of top clubs, including Nottingham Forest, Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers. He played for Dale in 1989/90 at the end of his career, scoring nine times in 59 outings.

Liam Dickinson

Salford-born striker who had a very short spell at Walsall in 2010. He signed on loan from Barnsley but failed to hit the net in his four appearances for Chris Hutchings’ side, resulting in his spell being cut short. The next season he signed for Rochdale, also on loan, and played 14 times at Spotland.

Paul Marshall

Marshall signed for the Saddlers from Manchester City in 2010. He only stayed at the Bescot Stadium for one season, scoring only one goal in 18 games, before moving on to Rochdale, where he made a single appearance.
