JON WHITNEY TAKING PART IN RUN FOR JOEL THIS SUNDAY

9 September 2016

Charity fun run at Sandwell Valley Country Park in West Bromwich...

Walsall manager Jon Whitney will be taking part in this Sunday’s ‘Run for Joel’ charity fun run at Sandwell Valley Country Park in West Bromwich.

The event has been organised by the Smile for Joel charity, in partnership with Sandwell Leisure Trust and Victim Support.

Smile for Joel, set up in memory of Tunisia terror victim Joel Richards by his mother Suzy, raises funds for other families who have lost loved ones in tragic circumstances.

More than 500 people have signed up for Run for Joel, although organisers are hopeful that over 1,000 will take part on the day.

Whitney said: “Suzy asked me about a month ago if I would be interested in doing it. I’ve not ran 3km for a while since I became the gaffer, but it’s a really good cause.

“Suzy wants me to start the run which will be a privilege. My wife and my two little ones will be doing the run as well, and hopefully I might get some of the players to attend.

“I want to do anything I can to help the charities we’re doing it for. Suzy was saying that she was really impressed with the amount of people who will be taking part, and the more the merrier.

“It’s a really good cause so get yourself down on Sunday – and you can laugh at me if you want!”

Run for Joel starts at 10am this Sunday (11th September) with a competitive 5km run and a more relaxed 3km run open to all ages and abilities.

Entries cost £10 for the 5km race. The fun run costs £6 or £2 for under 12s and free for under twos.
