Keeper stars in surprise friendly victory...

NEIL ETHERIDGE - THE PHILIPPINES

Saddlers goalkeeper Neil Etheridge saved a last-minute penalty to earn the Philippines a shock 2-1 victory over Kyrgyzstan in an international friendly.

The 26-year-old impressed throughout, making a string of fine saves on what his 52nd appearance for the Azkals.

Kevin Ingreso put the Philippines ahead on the stroke of half-time, before Misagh Bahadoran doubled their advantage early in the second half.

The hosts pulled one back through Vitalj Lux, who then had the chance to equalise, but his 89th-minute spot-kick was superbly parried by the inspired Etheridge.

Salamat to all the supporters that stayed up and watched the game on the live stream. Was a great victory that the team deserved #Azkals#NE1

ANDREAS MAKRIS

Walsall’s club-record signing Andreas Makris came on as a late substitute in Cyprus’ 3-0 home defeat to Roberto Martinez’s Belgium in their opening Group H World Cup qualifying match.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku scored two headers, while Yannick Carrasco was also on target, in a comfortable win for the Red Devils.

It was also ex-Saddler Martinez’s first victory since being appointed Belgium manager.
