ST THOMAS MORE REPORTER: WALSALL 1-1 COVENTRY

1 November 2016

Maita Kasenza's match report

The game against Coventry on Saturday ended with a score of 1 -1. Jon Whitney credited the “work ethic of the players” and felt that the players handled the game well against the threatening Coventry players.

Throughout the game Coventry did not refrain from putting on the pressure for the Walsall players but in the words of Whitney the players “limited Coventry’s chances” to score a winning goal. When asked about injured player Kieron Morris Whitney stated that his condition “is nothing too serious” Whitney also stated he was suffering a “a bit of neuropathic pain”. Whitney said they’ll “dust him down a bit” and give Morris “a day off”.

It was a painful blow when Coventry scored in the first half of the game but it was short lived as the game was turned around with Erhun Oztummer scoring in the last 14 minutes of the second half.

Whitney praised Oztummer commenting that he has a “huge heart and loves football” furthermore Whitney added that “he infuses people, he infuses the players around him” and that “he is a great player to watch”. Whitney also commented on other individual players such as Andreas Makris “putting a shift in” and Simeon Jackson coming on and is a “threat beyond”.

Whitney was “pleased” with the performance of his players and how they defended against Coventry. The overall game for the Walsall fans was an enjoyable experience and the draw was a fair result for both Coventry and Walsall.
