ST THOMAS MORE REPORTER: WALSALL 0-0 SOUTHEND

28 November 2016

Dillon Rao's match report...

The game on the 26th Nov between Walsall and Southend was a “battle” in the words of Jon Whitney with the match ending in a fair 0-0.

He wasn’t disappointed with the performance his team showed but despite him saying there was a “tense, negative atmosphere” he added that his team had “fighting spirit” as they persisted to get the ball in the opponents half, from beginning to the end the team were consistent in showing attempts to get the ball in the back of the net taking two shots in the first 10 minutes.

Whitney was “pleased” with the performance as they adapted to the minor change to the formation in attempt to infiltrate the opposition’s strategies to get the ball across to the other side. Changing the formation slightly aided Whitney said they were becoming “fatigued” which meant they couldn’t play as well as they could unless something was done.

Regardless if Walsall didn’t score a goal Whitney was pleased with the performance giving the quote “ if they give all they’ve got for me and come off giving nothing less, then I’m happy”

Again, the team put up a fight defending and attacking for the goal which would win them the match but Southend’s defending were equally good as they pass the ball over each other’s half like tennis and the game ended in a respectable 0-0. However, the highlight for some people in the match was the clash between both teams at the end of the match which was swiftly broken up and dealt with.
