WHITNEY: CONCENTRATE ON OUR OWN JOB

7 May 2016

The Saddlers must beat Port Vale tomorrow...

Jon Whitney insists Walsall must concentrate on their own job at Port Vale this Sunday before worrying about events elsewhere.

The Saddlers must beat the Valiants and hope Burton lose at Doncaster with a three-goal swing in goal difference to achieve automatic promotion to the Championship.

“We’ve said for the last few weeks that if we can take it to the last game, then that will mean we’ve got a bit of consistency and we’re winning games,” said Whitney.

“We’ve created something quite special in the last couple of years. And this year, we’ve had momentum from very early on from beating Brighton and Nottingham Forest.

“We also played Chelsea when (Jose) Mourinho spoke highly of us.

“It’s been a really good year when you look back and it has led to this opportunity where we can create a really incredible story.

“We’ve also got another bite of the cherry (if we miss out on automatic promotion).

"This Sunday, we’re going to make sure we just concentrate on ourselves.

“Port Vale is going to be really tough - they’ve only lost three home games – but we’ll see if we can get a bit of passion and desire into the team and we’ll see what happens.”
