WHITNEY: MORE OF THE SAME

15 March 2016

Boss looking for a repeat of Chesterfield display...

Interim head coach Jon Whitney has called for more of the same from his players as Walsall take on Fleetwood this evening.

The Saddlers ran out emphatic 4-1 winners at Chesterfield last time out, courtesy of Sam Mantom’s brace, a Jordy Hiwula strike and a Tom Anderson own goal.

Walsall are back on the road tonight with a rearranged trip to Steven Pressley’s Fleetwood – and Whitney is hoping for a repeat performance.

“I thanked the players after Chesterfield for their efforts and helping me win my first game,” said the 45-year-old.

“I told them I was proud of them but then the focus immediately shifted to Fleetwood.

“We’re ready to go again because we’re good enough and fit enough to repeat the performance we produced at Chesterfield.

“If we play like that most weeks, we’ll be in contention. You can’t guarantee wins because I’ve been involved where you’ve been unbelievably on top and then you have a sucker punch at the end.

“It doesn’t always go your way but what you’ve got to do is give your all and leave everything out on the pitch.

“If you come in with something left, you haven’t done your job.”
