Walsall held by Scunthorpe...Head coach Sean O’Driscoll was pleased with his side’s “resolve and resilience” in the goalless draw with battling Scunthorpe.
Substitute Kieron Morris went closest for the Saddlers when he rattled the bar, while Scunthorpe’s Tom Hopper saw an effort cleared off the line by Paul Downing.
It was Walsall’s second successive scoreless stalemate following Saturday’s draw at promotion-rivals Burton.
Despite being winless in five, O’Driscoll’s men are now up third in League One – above Gillingham, who slipped to fourth after a 2-1 loss at Fleetwood.
“We probably created as many chances as we have created in the last few games,” said O’Driscoll afterwards.
“It was a game where we tried to do the right things throughout the 90 minutes and a lot of the time it probably didn't quite come off for us.
“I thought we showed a great deal of resolve and resilience, especially when it would have been easy for their heads to drop when the ball wasn’t dropping for us or there was a misplaced pass.
“People can get frustrated but I thought we handed it really well. They're an honest bunch of players and they showed that.
“Everybody has got to hold their nerve a little bit, we're in a position where nobody is going to come here and just roll over.
“We’ve got to be up for the challenge. If things don’t go the way you want them to go, there’s no excuse for not doing the right things.”
