Raising money for Prostate Cancer UK...Lifelong Walsall fans Phil Radnor and Tom Foster will be representing the Saddlers in the 2016 Football to Amsterdam cycling challenge, which starts tomorrow!
The duo will be cycling 230km (143m) from Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium to Amsterdam over two days in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, the Football League’s official charity partner.
They are doing the ride in support of Tom’s dad Les, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013.
Following his diagnosis, Les underwent surgery to have his prostate removed but, unfortunately, the cancer spread to his lung.
He is now going through a course of chemotherapy to try to stop any further growth of cancer.
Ahead of tomorrow's ride, Phil provided the following update: "So here we are on the eve of the big ride. Last night I cleaned and lubed up the bike ready for the off tomorrow morning, which was abruptly followed by a 90 minute frantic search for my passport!
"Since the turn of the year we have cycled 890 miles between us which has taken 57 hours and 17 minutes to complete and in which time we have climbed over 25,500 feet. Thanks to everyone for their support so far both in encouragement and in sponsorship already pledged. We are well on our way to reaching our target of £2,000.
"For those still wishing to sponsor us I have included the link below which will also be shared on Facebook. Our plan is to post updates on our progress via Facebook and where possible we'll include some photos of the challenge so please keep an eye out for us.
"We hope that our fundraising efforts can help raise awareness about Prostate Cancer and help support those affected #MenUnited."
