WALSALL VS. BLACKPOOL: RECENT MEETINGS

22 January 2016

The Saddlers won 4-0 at Bloomfield Road back in August...

Ahead of this weekend’s match against Blackpool, we take a look back at the Saddlers’ last five matches against the Seasiders…

29th August 2015 – Blackpool 0-4 Walsall – League One
Romaine Sawyers scored twice as Walsall thrashed struggling Blackpool to go top of League One. The playmaker prodded the visitors ahead on 25 minutes, and Tom Aldred's own goal doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Sam Mantom's header made it 3-0 and Sawyers added a spectacular fourth to round off the Saddlers' sixth successive victory in all competitions.

1st April 2006 – Blackpool 2-0 Walsall – League One
Walsall’s relegation concerns deepened after they suffered a disappointing defeat at fellow strugglers Blackpool. The Seasiders went ahead four minutes into the second half, when Andy Williams latched onto Rory Prendergast’s pass behind firing past visiting keeper Andy Oakes. And Keith Southern made sure of Blackpool’s win with a superb 20-yard shot on 57 minutes.
31st December 2005 – Walsall 2-0 Blackpool – League One
James Constable scored twice as Walsall saw off Blackpool to extend their unbeaten home run to 11 matches. The Saddlers broke the deadlock just after the break, when Simon Osborn’s free-kick was headed in by Constable for his first Football league goal. The same man doubled his and Walsall’s tally with an accurate right-footed drive into the far corner, six minutes later.

March 2005 – Blackpool 2-0 Walsall – League One
Goals from John Murphy and Keith Southern earned Blackpool all three points. Walsall’s Matty Fryatt saw a first-half penalty saved by home keeper Lee Jones after Richie Wellens had been sent off for handball. Seconds later, Saddlers stopper Joe Murphy was also dismissed but substitute Dean Coleman kept out Keigan Parker’s subsequent spot-kick. John Murphy fired Blackpool ahead after the restart and Southern made it 2-0 from a rebound after seeing a penalty saved.

18th December 2004 – Walsall 3-2 Blackpool – League One
Marvin Robinson’s second-half double gave the Saddlers victory in a five-goal thriller against Blackpool. Scott Taylor slotted the Seasiders in front, but Jorge Leitao headed Walsall level on the stroke of half-time. Robinson’s tap-in put the hosts ahead, but Keigan Parker equalised seconds later with a fine curling free-kick. But the Saddlers clinched victory on 70 minutes, when Robinson headed home a Paul Merson set piece.
