Defender says we have a good mix of youth and experience...

Andy Taylor believes we have the right blend of youth and experience to maintain our promotion push.

Walsall are second in League One, just two points behind leaders Burton, and have taken 13 points from a possible 18 under head coach Sean O’Driscoll.

And Taylor, who is one of our most experienced players, feels we have the right balance in the squad to continue our good form.

“We’ve got a really good mix,” said the 29-year-old left back.

“We’ve got the senior pros who are very professional and have played a lot of games and seen a lot of things.

“And then we’ve got some really good, young exciting players as well.

“To be successful, you need a good mix – you can’t have one without the other.

“We have a nice balance which should serve us well.”

Walsall have no midweek game this week, meaning the players have more recovery time to prepare for Saturday’s visit of Blackpool.

And Taylor is pleased to have a midweek off following a demanding period of eight games in just 33 days.

“It’s been a hell of a run and it’s going to be another hell of a run soon with all the Tuesday games coming up,” he added.

“It’ll be nice to get on the training pitch, although the weather’s not the best at the minute.

“But the lads deserve a lot of credit for the shift they’ve put in over the Christmas and new year period.

“We got a really good points haul from that period so we’ll take the week off and work towards Blackpool on Saturday.”
