SADDLERS RAISE FUNDS FOR OAKWOOD SCHOOL

14 January 2016

£700 raised over the festive period donated to local special school...

VISITORS to one of the club’s hugely popular party nights and sporting dinners will be accustomed to the odd game of stand up bingo.

The fun game, that puts a twist on a traditional round of bingo, instructs players to sit down once their number has been called out.

This week, the club presented a cheque for £700 to Oakwood Special School, a donation from the money raised. Operations Manager Vicki Chambers, Duty Manager Stephanie Kumari and Head of Education Sue Lane made a trip to the school in Walsall Wood to see first hand where it will benefit the children.

The special school currently accommodates 66 children ranging from 2-11 years old. Having to cater for children with a wide range of physical and mental difficulties means specialist equipment is needed throughout the school.

As a result, sections of the building are in need of modernising and updating. The money will go towards an in house pool area refurbishment and improvements to their multisensory room, two facilities which are extremely popular with the children.

“It’s so humbling to visit the school and witness the amazing work of the teachers and staff first hand,” said Vicki Chambers.

“As soon as you walk in the building, you know instantly that it’s a happy place to be. The children love being there and the staff couldn’t do enough for them.

“It’s hugely satisfying to be able to hand over a cheque for £700 knowing it will be put to good use and make a real difference.”

If you would like to make any further donations to Oakwood School, please contact Vicky Chambers via email at vchambers@walsallfc.co.uk or the school directly at postbox@oakwood.walsall.sch.uk.
