O'DRISCOLL: MAINTAIN THE PERFORMANCE LEVELS

26 January 2016

Walsall play Fleetwood this evening...

Sean O’Driscoll says his players must maintain their performance levels if they are to remain in automatic promotion contention.

The Saddlers are third in League One and can rise to the summit with victory at Fleetwood this evening.

And O’Driscoll believes performing consistently will keep his side in the promotion hunt.

“We just have to keep our feet on the ground and maintain a level of consistency that ensures at the end of the season we are there or thereabouts,” he said.

"Nobody is going to run away with this division.

“Whether you are first, second, third, fourth, fifth – I don’t think it really matters at this point. We are trying to keep every game in perspective.

“We have now got a difficult game away at Fleetwood. In the next month there are going to be plenty of ups and downs.

“We’ll approach it like we do every game and we’ll be looking to maintain the level of performance that has got us the results we’ve got to date.”

Steven Pressley's Fleetwood are currently languishing in the League One relegation zone, a point from safety.

But O’Driscoll is anticipating a tricky fixture against the Cod Army, who we beat 2-0 in the FA Cup first round back in November.

“I watched them in midweek against Colchester and they were really expansive,” he said.

“Since then they’ve drafted in two really quick players (Alex Kiwomya and Devante Cole).

"It’ll be an interesting game for us to try to combat that.

“The game against Blackpool has given us a bit of food for thought about how we approach it.

“You can’t take anything for granted in this league and the fact they’ve strengthened their squad with two players shows they want to climb the table.”

There is a pitch inspection at 3pm this afternoon ahead of tonight’s match.
