Midfielder makes instant impact...
James Baxendale was named man of the match on his Mansfield debut after scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Stevenage. The 23-year-old midfielder, who has joined the Stags on a one-month emergency loan, was brought straight into Mansfield’s starting XI.
And the ex-Doncaster man made an instant impact, firing home their second goal with a fine 20-yard strike on 65 minutes.
“It was a great touch from Matt Green to set me up for the goal, and when you’re playing with players like that, it makes it a lot easier,” Baxendale told mansfieldtown.net afterwards.
“I’ve scored a few from outside the box and it’s something I want to get back to, so to do it on the first game is somewhere to start and something I want to continue.
“Looking at the table before the game, I really wanted to kick on to get the three points.
"Obviously to finish off with a goal for myself, it couldn’t have gone much better really.”
Elsewhere, young striker Jordan Murphy rejoined Worcester City on a one-month youth loan on Friday afternoon.
But the 19-year-old will have to wait for his second City debut after their National League North fixture at Lowesoft was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
