Wayne is our new Commercial Manager...
Former Walsall midfielder Wayne Thomas is back at the Banks’s as the club’s new Commercial Manager. The 37-year-old came through the Saddlers' youth system and made 38 league appearances for his hometown club between 1996 and 2000.
He later played for Mansfield, Shrewsbury, Hednesford and Rushall Olympic before being forced to retire through injury.
After football, Wayne became a sales and fitness manager at a health club before moving into retail with local business Diffusion.
He spent nine years with the company, becoming area manager of 13 G-Star stores, but jumped at the chance to return to Walsall FC earlier this month.
“It’s quite a surreal feeling to be back here,” said Wayne.
“When I saw the opportunity to come back, I was really excited by it. The club has changed in lots of ways since I was here as a player; it has developed both on and off the field.
“There are a lot of commercial benefits for local and national businesses here at Walsall and it’s really exciting for me to be involved in this side of things, and hopefully I can develop it further.
“Logistically, we’re in a great location, just off the M6, with great links and the club’s on the up.
“The main aspect of my role will be developing different commercial opportunities.
“I will also be involved in matchday hospitality, and will use my football knowledge to hopefully create a unique experience for our sponsors.
“I’m really enjoying being back at the club.”
