CHAMBERS: WE CAN HOLD OUR OWN

29 January 2016

Walsall visit Reading in the FA Cup tomorrow...

Captain Adam Chambers is confident Walsall can hold their own against Championship side Reading in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend.

The Saddlers have beaten three second-tier sides already this season - Brentford in the FA Cup and Nottingham Forest and Brighton in the League Cup.

And Chambers believes those results should stand us in good stead when we travel to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

“The lads are very much looking forward to it,” said the experienced midfielder.

“We’ve played a few Championship sides in the cup competitions this season and performed very well in all of those games and come through them with wins.

“We’ll be looking to do the same on Saturday.

“Reading are a very good side, an established Championship team, and it’s going to be a difficult game.

“But after the previous games against Championship sides, we’ll have that extra little bit of confidence knowing that if we perform, we can hold our own against teams in a higher division.

“If we perform to our capabilities then I believe we’ll have a good chance of getting through.

“It’s not going to be an easy game but we go into every game, whether it’s the league or cup, looking to win.”

Walsall have excelled on the road this season, winning 10 out of 17 away games in league and cup.

And Chambers believes the Saddlers are perhaps more suited to playing away from home.

“When we play away, the home team has to come out and attack a bit more,” he said.

“Sometimes at the Banks’s we find that teams sit in and make it more difficult for us to play through them.

“But when teams are at home, they look to entertain their fans and come out a bit more which gives us a bit more space to play into.”
