WALSALL VS. MILLWALL: RECENT MEETINGS

4 February 2016

Milan Lalkovic scored the only goal on Boxing Day...

Ahead of this weekend’s match against Millwall, we take a look back at the Saddlers’ last five matches against the Lions…

26th December 2015 – Millwall 0-1 Walsall – League One
Milan Lalkovic scored his seventh goal of the season as Walsall beat Millwall to go top of League One. The Saddlers dominated the first-half and took a deserved 29th-minute lead when Lalkovic coolly slotted past Lions keeper David Forde. Millwall rallied late on with Aiden O’Brien hitting the bar, but the visitors defended manfully to secure a fourth consecutive league win.

6th March 2010 – Walsall 2-2 Millwall – League One
Alan Dunne scored a stoppage-time equaliser as play-off chasing Millwall fought back from two goals down to draw. Alex Nicholls’ cross-shot and Richard Taundry’s rising drive gave the Saddlers a 2-0 lead after 27 minutes. Steve Morison pounced on a Rene Gilmartin error to halve the deficit, and after Walsall’s Matt Richards was sent off, Dunne fired home a late leveller.

12th December 2009 - Millwall 2-1 Walsall – League One
A second-half brace from Steve Morison gave Millwall victory. Walsall came racing out of the blocks, with Manny Smith volleying home an eighth-minute opener from Peter Till’s corner. But the Lions came roaring back and equalised on 59 minutes, Morison finishing confidently from Ashley Grimes’ pass. And the in-form striker curled home Millwall’s winner 14 minutes from time, after being set clear by Jason Price.

4th April 2009 – Millwall 3-1 Walsall – League One
Millwall bolstered their automatic promotion chances with this comfortable win. Jason Price’s close-range finish put the hosts ahead but Jabo Ibehre equalised with a low shot from 15 yards. Gary Alexander restored the Lions’ lead on the cusp of half-time, and he then added a third goal nine minutes after the break.

13th December 2008 – Walsall 1-2 Millwall – League One
Andy Frampton’s last-minute header condemned Walsall to a dramatic defeat. The visitors struck first, with Neil Harris – the current Millwall manager – firing home from a tight angle to equal Teddy Sheringham’s club record of 111 goals. Alex Nicholls’ volley drew Walsall level but the Lions snatched victory a minute from time, Frampton heading in following a goalmouth scramble.
