KOUHYAR: 'A GOOD EXPERIENCE'

23 February 2016

Youngster on the bench against Wigan...

It has been a whirlwind week for talented teenager Maz Kouhyar.

Just four days after signing his first professional contract, the 18-year-old midfielder was named in Walsall’s matchday squad for our League One clash against promotion-rivals Wigan.

And despite being an unused substitute in the 2-1 defeat, the highly-rated youngster thoroughly enjoyed his first involvement with the senior side.

“It was a good experience,” said Kouhyar, who scored in the youth team's 6-1 win at Accrington the previous day.

“At the start I was really nervous but all the players were welcoming and said congratulations to me for getting my pro deal. There were some funny characters in there.

“I was really surprised when I got the call on Saturday morning to come in to be on the bench. The day before, we had a youth team game as well so I was just shocked.

“Playing first-team football has been my dream since I was young. I’ve seen what it’s like now and I want to be involved more.

“This week, Jordon Sangha and I are going to start training with the first team and hopefully I can show the gaffer what I can do to get on the bench some more times and eventually play as well.”
