Sangha said: “I’m buzzing to have signed my contract. I’ve played at Walsall for ten years and I’ve finally got a pro deal.

“I was lost for words when I found out. I phoned my mum straight away and she was nearly crying on the phone. I told my dad when I got home and he was nearly crying as well.

“My aim is to get in and around the first-team, whether it’s on the bench or playing with them, and hopefully in a few more years I’ll get in the team.”

Kouhyar, also 18, who is affectionately known as ‘Maz’, joined the Saddlers in April 2013, aged 15, following his release from Coventry City.

The Afghanistan-born midfielder, who has British citizenship, said: “When I was offered the deal I was really happy, very emotional. I couldn’t believe it.

“My mum was ecstatic, she broke down in tears of happiness. My dad works away so I skyped him and he was really proud.

“I need to carry on working as hard as I am doing and put even more effort in. This has to be my life now. I’ve put all this work in to get to pro, now I need to take it to the next level.”
