DOMINANT SADDLERS EASE PAST MORECAMBE

5 December 2016

Goals in each half from Peters and Hayles-Docherty seal the win...

The young Saddlers were victorious for the ninth time this season after a dominant display over Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Peters and Hayles-Docherty ensured a 2-0 win in a game that Graham Biggs's side controlled from start to finish.

The league leaders had a good chance to take the lead 3 minutes in as Cockerill-Mollett had a close range header well saved.

From then it was chance after chance for the home side. Shorrock and O'Sullivan both carved out chances for themselves after quick trickery but was unable to make them count.

Peters did make the early Walsall pressure count though as he cleverly turned at the near post from a corner and buried home.

Forward Peters then nearly doubled the lead two minutes later after being slipped through by O'Sullivan but it was well saved by Maher.

Walsall kept up the pressure and contained Morecambe for the remainder of the half but was unable to add to their dominance.

HALF-TIME: Walsall 1-0 Morecambe

Three minutes into the second half and Hayles-Docherty got himself onto the scoresheet. The ball was cut back and the forward made no mistake in sliding the ball past Maher.

Then, the goal scorer nearly put the game out of sight as he rose the highest from a cross but his towering header was just off target.

Morecambe's best chance fell 75 mins in but they was unable to capitalise on a free header from a set piece.

Substitute Freemantle nearly got in on the act as he had two late chances but was unlucky in not converting.
